The Leather History Timeline for Texas

Based on the Leather History Timeline started by Tony DeBlase

Introduction

This is a version of the Leather History Timeline begun by Tony DeBlase for the Leather Archives and Museum. It contains content from the original LHT but only content specific to Texas --- with the exception of the item about the Stonewall Riots in 1969.

Over time, I plan on adding additional content that is specific to Texas.

I welcome the following submissions for inclussion:

  • Corrections of facts
  • Missing citations for existing quotations
  • missing dates and page numbers for magazine articles
  • Clubs or events that celebrate milestone anniversaries (5 year increments)
  • Passing of peole notably involved in the leather community
  • Closing of leather bars, ending of clubs, ending of contests, etc…
  • Notable laws, court cases or police reports dealing with Fetish/BDSM and the Leather Lifestyle
  • Nonpornograph and nonerotic imagery relevant to exisiting content

I intend to attribute all additions and changes to the timelime. Let me know how you wish to be attributed or if you don't wish to be.

I reserve the right to evaluate how appropriateness of the submissions.

Section 43.23 of the code deals with promotion ("A person commits an offense if he ... possesses with intent to wholesale promote any obscene material or obscene device. A person who possesses six or more obscene devices ... is presumed to possess them with intent to promote the same.") This section carries higher penalties, and for this reason, those businesses that trade in items covered under the act usually market them as 'novelties' or 'educational items'.

The events of this past weekend were horrifying and show a disturbing trend in which perverted adults are obsessed with sexualizing young children. As a father of two young children, I would never take my children to a drag show and I know Speaker Dade Phelan and the rest of my Republican colleagues wouldn't either. Protecting our own children isn't enough, and our responsibility as lawmakers extends to the sexualization that is happening across Texas.
